<br />
Well, goal for 2016. Paint my complete Dark Elf army... which I first started collecting in 2011 or something like that...<br />
<br />
Below are some test models I painted almost a year ago to demonstrate the scheme I'm going after... Am still toying with the idea of a non-metallic metal scheme.... but damn do shiny things look shiny.<br />

<h4>
(Check out the limited edition Army Book cover art!... Which by the way is exactly the same as the regular Army Book's cover art... For only 25 pounds more!... Hooray sensibility!)</h4>
<br />
<br />
So, I laid my grubby fingers on the latest fantasy offering from our favourite plastic crack dealer and it kind of felt like this.<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQyx2PWyC2I">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQyx2PWyC2I</a><br />
<br />
I'm only half kidding, in typical GW "tell a story that spans for millennia but sticks along a single central theme, over and over again fashion" they pretty much did rip off The Circle of Life for its whole Season of blabla, cycle of birth,death,re-birth fluff background :P<br />
<br />
To be fair, the fluff wasn't bad, just a considerably underachieving effort on GW's part in this blogger's humble opinion. Note also how credit for the book goes not to any one games designer, but to the Games Workshop Design Studio as a whole... possibly because said individuals are hoping to walk into a hobby room without everyone spontaneously blaring out "HAAAAAAAA-se-neYAAA" at some point in the foreseeable future.<br />
<br />
But I digress.<br />
<br />
Talking about the rules aspect of the book itself, I was impressed. Not so much because it felt like an overly powerful (Tier 1 as some out there would put it...*ahem*) army, but because it opened up the possibilities of a far more unique army play style then any other Army Book has thus far been able to pull, while at the same time giving players the opportunity to build practical lists along more conventional terms (blocks of infantry in a battleline), if one were so inclined.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<img src="http://www.karlkopinski.com/images/portfolio/61.jpg" height="266" style="text-align: center;" width="400" /><br />
<h4>
(The Asrai regularly warns maidens that deciding on fur is a pretty bad idea... but they just never listen....)</h4>
Play style wise, Wood Elves remain to be largely their nimble shooty Selves (oh yes I did...) , but with a lot more style. As a ranged weapon the Asrai Longbow beats out pretty much any other ranged weapon out there courtesy of armour piercing and it's range. Sure, Dwarves will pack a heftier punch per shot, but taking into account that the Asrai can move and shoot with their bows AND in most cases pick from a range of Enchanted Arrows (granting everything from -3 to armour saves, poisoned attacks, flaming attacks, multiple shots or to hit penalty negaters), Wood Elf players are going to find their ranged shooters to be a heck of a lot more value for points, as clever placement and maneuver will likely ensure that at least some (the considerable sum at that) of his units will be able to pepper his opponents army throughout a game. <br />
<br />
For combat, the Asrai also gain a few new toys which makes this Asur player rather envious. Asrai Spears, which come with Armour Piercing, are a real boon for your average S3 Elf. (They must be asleep in Vaul's Forge, what the hell la hoi!) That Eternal Guard come kitted out with it is cool for sure, but the real joy will come for those players who'll want to play with cavalry, as even core choice Glade Riders become deadly, while special choice Wild Riders (They're base S4 and have Devastating Charge as standard...) go absolutely mental.<br />
<br />
Another thing most immediately fascinating about Wood Elves for me, is the kind and number of monsters you could actually fit into an army.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yfnv2Y_Glcw/U2up6GwWwsI/AAAAAAAAAcw/AN0zBqEEnRk/s1600/Treeman.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yfnv2Y_Glcw/U2up6GwWwsI/AAAAAAAAAcw/AN0zBqEEnRk/s1600/Treeman.png" height="400" width="381" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<h4>
(Trees. Are the principle cause of forest fires. - Lord George 'DubyaMD' Bush)</h4>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So fancy this. Treeman Ancient. A lord option. Lvl 2 Lore of Life Wizard as standard, but upgradeable to Level 3 OR 4. Also benefits from Blessings of the Ancients (+1 to caste). Thank you very much GW.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Moving onto your Heroes, gander into the Special Rules section and say hello to the sisters deadly, Naestra & Arahan. Riding on a Great Eagle as standard, these lovely ladies (Have I mentioned that you can't kill them unless you kill them both in a single phase? No? Well yes.) can ditch the wise old hoot and upgrade themselves to a grouchy old Forest Dragon for those occasions when they really want to dress to kill.</div>
<br />
Now, on top of that you've got your average joe Treemen in your Rare options. Nasty and relatively inexpensive (You could have two of the tree huggers in a 2500 list) close combat frackers with a cool shooty upgrade option.<br />
<br />
So yes, an army of monsters with S6 T6 and a whole lotta wounds matched with regiments of nimble, shooty elves. Maybe a regiment of Glade or Wild Hunters for some spice. Sounds pretty terrifying and fun to me!<br />

Up till now had always underestimated it because it looked seemingly meh. But today, seeing as I was going up against Mark's Necrons, which I usually struggle against, I figured what the hell.<br />
<br />
So it's turn 4, and unsurprisingly it's a pretty tough fight with his multiple Night Scythe drop staring down at my one remaining troop choice of Dire Avengers with both Asurmen and Farseer down to 1 last wound each. My WraithKnight is nearby and locked in combat with another squad of Necron warriors, which I was trying to keep off an objective (and the overall fight) but then a Necron Destroyer Lord charges in and was tearing it apart thanks to mind-shackle scarabs and general good luck.<br />
<br />
So, moment of truth, lose the wraith knight and a destroyer lord and necron squad are going to add to my troubles, likely ensuring a Necron victory from overwhelming numbers. Farseer thumbs his nose and casts Terrify onto the Necron Destroyer Lord. It is successful. Mark rolls deny the witch. Fails. He notes how fortunate it is all Necrons have Ld 10. Rolls his morale test... and FAILS!<br />
<br />
So Necron Destroyer Lord breaks away from the combat and scampers off whence his codified circuits and cloud based operating systems came from! Successfully regroups in his turn but lacking Marine uberness, does nothing else in the turn allowing Big W to take out a few more Warriors though they do not break. Poor shooting by Mark leaves the Dire Avengers heavily battered, but alive! And in my next turn, the WraithKnight finishes off the warriors in combat while, in a round of very fortunate shooting, the Dire Avengers, Asurmen and the Farseer polishes off the entire remainder of the Necron squad which had been hammering away at them.<br />
<br />
Bottom of the 5th, it's Mark's turn and with not much left, he tries to at least contest an objective by charging into the Wraithknight with the Necron Destroyer Lord. It blasts away with his Heavy Wraithcannons and misses, but gets to re-roll because of Prescience and boom, rolls the six. Suffice it to say that there wasn't much left of the Necron Lord to re-animate. Game ends in an Eldar victory, and it was pretty much down to the sequence of events brought about courtesy of Terrify :D<br />
<br />
Moral of the story, your models will excel in combat when you finish painting them :P<br />

Battlefleet Gothic<br />
<br />
And so, without any further ado, allow me to introduce to you the fleet.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0UhKUUAvmSE/UcFY1uUR1OI/AAAAAAAAAXA/CcTz3L55NT8/s1600/IMG_2650.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0UhKUUAvmSE/UcFY1uUR1OI/AAAAAAAAAXA/CcTz3L55NT8/s400/IMG_2650.JPG" width="400" /></a><br />
Battlegroup Adama in all its glory<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jB0UyF9dhIo/UcFY1yCCYoI/AAAAAAAAAXE/8UOGzeg2f2k/s1600/IMG_2651.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jB0UyF9dhIo/UcFY1yCCYoI/AAAAAAAAAXE/8UOGzeg2f2k/s400/IMG_2651.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Sword Squadron Ignis, Dauntless Ligth Cruisers Mayhem, Havoc, Revenge and Avenger, and Cobra Squadron Cazon<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cWNeeHHBH4A/UcFY2wKuKPI/AAAAAAAAAXU/_9shJNU1Ql0/s1600/IMG_2652.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cWNeeHHBH4A/UcFY2wKuKPI/AAAAAAAAAXU/_9shJNU1Ql0/s400/IMG_2652.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Swords are great escorts... It's been so long since I last played BFG that I cant remember why, but they are nonetheless great escorts :P The Dauntless class is also possibly the best light cruiser out there (Seeing that it's a pretty short list of light cruisers out there...) Remember many an opponent often underestimating them early only to then witness what utter mayhem they can cause when they hit a battleline from the sides with torpedoes or lances.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T13M0yNB1II/UcFY3E7NEAI/AAAAAAAAAXY/KOHUL4i2lW0/s1600/IMG_2653.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T13M0yNB1II/UcFY3E7NEAI/AAAAAAAAAXY/KOHUL4i2lW0/s400/IMG_2653.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Cobra Destroyers (Actually, those models are Hunters I think, but have always preferred the models and played em as Cobras). Lovely little harassment Destroyers which are great at disrupting an opponents fiendish plans.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qgdk9oR9RjY/UcFY3Vd5rQI/AAAAAAAAAXk/PzJAyrnGAnM/s1600/IMG_2654.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qgdk9oR9RjY/UcFY3Vd5rQI/AAAAAAAAAXk/PzJAyrnGAnM/s400/IMG_2654.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Apocalypse Class Battleship 'Imperial Wrath'. Sadly, this was quite a late addition to my fleet towards when BFG play was dwindling down again so I think I've only ever fielded it once... Still, Nova Cannon on the prow and look at all those lances. I mean. Just. Look at em... Blasting away at range and then ripping the guts out of heretic ships of the line with awesome broadsides.... PAX IMPERIALIS heretic scum!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-duQHWidz5n4/UcFY3zJeQQI/AAAAAAAAAXs/QTSs9BUdRbA/s1600/IMG_2655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-duQHWidz5n4/UcFY3zJeQQI/AAAAAAAAAXs/QTSs9BUdRbA/s400/IMG_2655.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Seriously, LOOK at all those lance batteries. LOOK AT EM!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jPJ31YCdxQ4/UcFY4MJusUI/AAAAAAAAAXw/gwg16dyk124/s1600/IMG_2656.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jPJ31YCdxQ4/UcFY4MJusUI/AAAAAAAAAXw/gwg16dyk124/s400/IMG_2656.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here you see 'Revenge' escorting Imperial Behemoth Class Mass Conveyors. Each one of those is capable of transporting multiple regiments of Imperial Guardsmen and their attendant vehicles, weapons and supplies to conduct fully independent combat operations.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u1HlFKOkb8U/UcFY5uMIJWI/AAAAAAAAAYM/0HQuM5tJPEQ/s1600/IMG_2659.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u1HlFKOkb8U/UcFY5uMIJWI/AAAAAAAAAYM/0HQuM5tJPEQ/s400/IMG_2659.JPG" width="400" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Will prove to be very useful and fun models for those planetary invasion scenarios...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Here you see the Mars Class Battlecruiser 'Lion El'Jonson' and the Armageddon Class Battlecruiser 'Sparta'. The Lion is probably my most favourite vessel and more often than not serves as Battlegroup Flagship. She has a very illustrious career and has brought ruination to many a traitor vessel. The 'Sparta' has also served with distinction and is one of those great backup ships coz they can dish out a hell of a lot of fire.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
The Retribution Class Battleship 'Rex Imperium'. Official Flagship of Fleet Admiral Riker Adama though as mentioned, he typically does fly his flag on the 'Lion' more often than not. A great gunboat the Retribution is, but far too often, the more nimble ships out there tend to be able to do her great harm.<br />

<br />
Ships of the Line. Yet to be christened Lunar Class Cruiser. Dictator Class Cruisers 'Truth & Reconciliation' and 'Pax Imperialis', Dominator Class Cruiser 'Lucius Verinus'. My carrier heavy preference is I think a result of numerous engagements with Hive Fleet Zaki, which frankly leaves even the most grizzled Fleet Veteran crying like a little girl in the bathtub as she clutches her favourite inanimate Teddy.... Yes, Tyranid fleets are not to be trifled with. The Dominator is a great ship of the line and can hold up to even the battleships if you support her properly. Hmm, might reconfigure the Lunar into a Dominator as a matter of fact.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Will do a Space Marine showcase separately, but not really planning to involve them in this campaign.... Save perhaps the good chaps from the Imperial Inquisition's very own Matt Wardified kick a demon in the face then date his girlfriend Imperial Grey Knights.<br />

So lets blow some stuff up then :D<br />

<br />
So, just listing out some objectives I've mentally set, (and by all means, come after me with an axe if I don't get them done).<br />
<br />
<b>Dark Eldar- Eldar Alliance list.</b> Get these guys ready for play (assembled+ongoing painting) in the campaign being organised by Yip and Billy. Get a fully painted and WYSIWYG 1850 list for the year end tournament. This involves:-<br />
<br />
Painting up the Eldar contingent. Going to push myself to make these guys look great with proper reference to painting guides, tips, techniques and the color RED.<br />
<br />
Eldar on the list are -<br />
1 Farseer<br />
1 Warlock (Need to strip the paint of this 90's white metal era yokel first to boot)<br />
10 Guardians<br />
1 Wave Serpent<br />
1 Crimson Hunter<br />
1 Wraithknight<br />
<br />
Aimed time of completion - August<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fh5gEYjl6Sg/UbVP0i9vFXI/AAAAAAAAAWo/3NUp6wtgVGk/s1600/Wraithknight.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fh5gEYjl6Sg/UbVP0i9vFXI/AAAAAAAAAWo/3NUp6wtgVGk/s640/Wraithknight.JPG" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Gah.<br />
<br />
Dark Eldar. This is where it hurts... RE-painting all of my Kabalites into something actually half decent. Will keep the crimson colour scheme for my Wyches (which I won't be using in the list :S...), the Incubi, Archon and his personal Venom but gonna respray and re-paint the two kabalite squads, their 2 venoms and a ravager... Seeing as I do have 5 unpainted Incubi, I might even paint them and the personalised Venom in the new scheme... but the list of things to do is already exceptionally intimidating.<br />
<br />
Aimed time of completion - In time for the Year End Legio Tourney<br />
<br />
<b>High Elves</b><br />
<br />
Taking a deliberate pause here as I made a clear mistake in trying to paint too many infantry units at one go (Will muntah darah if I have to paint steel armor AGAIN). Still, have been spending a fair amount more effort on em than I traditionally do, so will definitely try not to rush this so that they come out dapper. Still, deadlines should be deadlines so;<br />
<br />
Items to complete<br />
- The Prince on Dragon.<br />
- Phoenix with Caradryan<br />
- Plastic on foot Caradryan<br />
- Prince on Griffin<br />
- 10 Elf Silver Helm regiment<br />
- 20 White Lions<br />
- the second White Lion chariot<br />
Actually not that much left all things considering... Must find inspiration to do this.<br />
<br />
Deadline. November.<br />
<br />
Tau - Haha!<br />
<br />
Dark Elves - Assembled and primed in time for the Legio Throwdown - October... rargh.<br />
<br />
So on that note, really need to discipline myself on the purchases. It's amazing how when you're fired up to paint you can do whole regiments at pretty good quality in a matter of weeks... But when the bug leaves you, you wallow about like a dugong... Considering that work is going back into overdrive mode and much of July-August will likely be focused on the home reno, actually not too much time left for hobby time either... Ho-boy... :S<br />

<br />
Yes, it's been a very long time and I have indeed been busy.<br />
<br />
Don't think I've rampaged through painting an army this quickly while also testing myself by applying more effort.. Still aways to go to match up to the pro's but am very happy with the result nonetheless.<br />
<br />
First up, my favourite models in all of hobbying at the moment, the Swordmasters of Hoeth.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wKv22ep-Sz4/UWrLUgX3jvI/AAAAAAAAAVQ/u1aC_JlGv98/s1600/Swordmasters.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wKv22ep-Sz4/UWrLUgX3jvI/AAAAAAAAAVQ/u1aC_JlGv98/s640/Swordmasters.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Really love these guys, the sculpts are simply fantastic and game play wise they know how to bring the hurt. Most momentous moment to date is when about 7 of them cut a swath through Hassanal's Bloodletters, pinching a slim win over seemingly overwhelming odds at the time.<br />
<br />
Next up, also incredibly nice models but really also getting on my nerves because there's just soo many bloody details to get through, the Seaguard.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n3hvSXLLiBo/UWrMAN3hfII/AAAAAAAAAVY/7qXfWaKUr_I/s1600/Seaguard.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n3hvSXLLiBo/UWrMAN3hfII/AAAAAAAAAVY/7qXfWaKUr_I/s640/Seaguard.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As you can see, not quite done yet and to be honest I've moved on to other units for the moment just to break the monotony of things. Very pleasing to look at though and they've been a dependable, albeit fragile, core of line infantry to support the battle-line.<br />
<br />
<br />
Which brings us on to the Spearmen!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xSjY_PHfRhg/UWrMe9bRZxI/AAAAAAAAAVg/70k7qQwCTJM/s1600/Spears+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xSjY_PHfRhg/UWrMe9bRZxI/AAAAAAAAAVg/70k7qQwCTJM/s640/Spears+1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x0UBSp_4Zm8/UWrMexwFKDI/AAAAAAAAAVk/EA5_H8TbUXg/s1600/Spears+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x0UBSp_4Zm8/UWrMexwFKDI/AAAAAAAAAVk/EA5_H8TbUXg/s640/Spears+2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Actually also really like the look and feel of this regiment. The front two ranks have spears forward just waiting to impale any enemy lacking in caution. Incredibly fragile troops who've been totally trampled upon by hard hitting cavalry or heavy infantry in a couple of games... but still one of the units which I'm most pleased with in terms of look and feel. A great big thank you to my lovely Rachel for pointing out that Red IS the only colour I could have painted those shields.<br />
<br />
Which brings me to my current line up of Lords and Heroes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yq70GJe51aI/UWrNenpYkaI/AAAAAAAAAVw/y6B-UwfihEA/s1600/Lords.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yq70GJe51aI/UWrNenpYkaI/AAAAAAAAAVw/y6B-UwfihEA/s640/Lords.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
From left to right, Level 1 Mage, Level 4 Arch-Mage, Level 1 Mage and Hero of the Elven Republic.<br />
<br />
Need to take some better pictures of these guys. Again, quite pleased with the result of these guys as they are a bit of a new personal best (Simply in terms of attention to details/ Actually shaded the jewels here dammit.) In any case, going to try to push myself even more with...<br />
<br />
Puff, the Magic Dragon....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rLFG6p9G8zw/UWrOKINYehI/AAAAAAAAAV4/3jW4XBmgJwk/s1600/Puff+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rLFG6p9G8zw/UWrOKINYehI/AAAAAAAAAV4/3jW4XBmgJwk/s640/Puff+1.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
For some reason I forgot to take a close up shot of my finished White Lion Chariot the other night. Also missing from the line-up is my regiment of White Lions (Who have been utterly devastating in battle), and Korhil who's one of, if not the best, Heroes out there. Still a fair bit of progress to go in finishing them up... and the new Tau are providing me with a significant distraction. An incredibly exciting boost with the new Codex.... Blasting three out of three Necron Night Scythes out of the sky... Hallelujah...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Sanguinary Guard Champion.. Alas, rarely play the Guard in my list so this guy sometimes doubles as an Assault Squad Sarge with Power Fist. </div>

It's been a LONG while since I took these boys out for a spin, or touched 40k for that matter but the new Dark Angel marines in Dark Vengeance look mighty fine. Gonna have to be a lot more responsible with the finances these days though so hoping to avoid a massive plastic crack addiction, but will definitely be dusting these boys off for a twirl, once I make the effort to go through the new rules that is :S.</div>

<br />
Turn I:- Panzer III's roll out towards the objective. Left side platoon swings through the village to scan for ambushes and secure cover. Right side platoon drives straight towards the objective albeit cautiously.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
French dummy tanks sit in place covering primary objective on the right flank.<br />

<br />
<br />
As per pre-war doctrine, Luftwaffe support is called in to handle heavy French armour. Luftwaffe however fails to deliver ordnance on target and are driven off by simulated French anti-aircraft fire.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WL5zdtX7z7g/UCU7A42204I/AAAAAAAAASM/F4zt2ceQBgk/s1600/IMG_1817.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WL5zdtX7z7g/UCU7A42204I/AAAAAAAAASM/F4zt2ceQBgk/s320/IMG_1817.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: justify;">Turn 2:- Panzer III's blast away at suspected French observer team position, knocking them out. Left flank Panzer III Platoon also secures objective.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U6gjZxoi3_o/UCU65qM-VAI/AAAAAAAAARo/PZlNxGpx29U/s1600/IMG_1813.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U6gjZxoi3_o/UCU65qM-VAI/AAAAAAAAARo/PZlNxGpx29U/s320/IMG_1813.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Training marshals enforce collateral casualties as predicted for "advancing under fire" situations.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Luftwaffe support once again brought in to deal with French heavy armour, succeeding in destroying one dummy Char Bi-1.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E5R_nbHuw20/UCU6_RkwSiI/AAAAAAAAASE/VKXaZQBGLiY/s1600/IMG_1816.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E5R_nbHuw20/UCU6_RkwSiI/AAAAAAAAASE/VKXaZQBGLiY/s320/IMG_1816.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Smoke bombardment forces remaining Char Bi-1's to advance from their static positions, minimal fire of Panzer III platoon completely ineffective. Return fire from over watch 88s annihilate surviving tanks. With no French forces contesting objective at the end of Turn 2, training marshals declare exercise complete.<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
Quick look at two of my favourite tanks of the Wehrmacht. The venerable Panzer IV H and the awesome Jagdpanther Tank Hunter!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now many a German commander swears by the fear inducing strengths of the big cat Panthers and Tigers oh my! which are available but my love for the Panzer IV H rests on two key things.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First being the belief that more is better (So more Panzer IV's on the table is better than having a few big cats). Personally feel that the flexibility of the P.IV beats out the uber powers of the big cats, especially considering that the P.IV CAN kill essentially any allied medium tank and even a few of their heavies if you play it right. A boast that not all of the allied mediums can lay a claim to. Second thing is what's in the image below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qbAhMIkfSDU/UBf7sVtx-tI/AAAAAAAAAQo/YgK7XJ0_a_8/s1600/IMG_1776.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qbAhMIkfSDU/UBf7sVtx-tI/AAAAAAAAAQo/YgK7XJ0_a_8/s320/IMG_1776.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Panzer Commander! The actual memoirs of the heroic Hans Von Luck. This book is a must read for anyone who wants some insights into what going into war on the German side must have felt like, and on top of very interesting details regarding his campaigns (The man fought in Poland, France, The East Front, Afrika, France again and then back in The East Front) your also get to delve into the thoughts and sentiments of one of the most remarkable and inspiring individuals that there has ever been. Topping it all off, you get an appreciation for what the P.IV being a workhorse for the Wehrmacht really meant. Truly, words cannot express how excellent that book is so just go out there, get a copy and read it.</div>

<br />
<div>
Great armor, great range, great AT and moves as quick as any medium tank. A very lethal combination that has led to them being instrumental in most of the games in which they feature in. They do cost a bomb though at a whopping 230 points a tank and tend to be fairly overindulgent when facing anything other than tank companies. Still, for sheer fear inducing fun factor they are a great choice to go with.<br />

<br />
Fairly straightforward with half a dozen Panzer III E's (CO, 2iC and a Combat Platoon) at the core of it supported by a Platoon of 3 Panzer II's, a Mixed Panzerspah Platoon of Sdkfz 221's/ 222's, a Luftwaffe battery of 2 88's and a gun battery of 4 of the excellent German 10.5 artillery.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-omyoY77jNfs/UBFQcfSBd8I/AAAAAAAAAOA/aM3nzS62b24/s1600/IMG_1726.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-omyoY77jNfs/UBFQcfSBd8I/AAAAAAAAAOA/aM3nzS62b24/s320/IMG_1726.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Panzer III's will lead the way with this list giving me a great base of mobile fire to play around with.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VPl3kmp631w/UBFQeCFZ41I/AAAAAAAAAOI/J79Dj00gs7Y/s1600/IMG_1727.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VPl3kmp631w/UBFQeCFZ41I/AAAAAAAAAOI/J79Dj00gs7Y/s320/IMG_1727.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A young Leutnant Blitz?</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Will try to take pictures under better light and with a better camera next time. Can't seem to find the bleedin charging for the digital cam so relying on the ol iPhone.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IwTtHxf2IVA/UBFQl75pKAI/AAAAAAAAAOo/oVT9B8RKpQE/s1600/IMG_1741.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IwTtHxf2IVA/UBFQl75pKAI/AAAAAAAAAOo/oVT9B8RKpQE/s320/IMG_1741.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Artillery. Indispensable in the Early War period really what with the masses of dug in Tommy and Froggy infantry to be expected, not to mention hordes of tissue paper thin yet up gunned Tanks<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yjL0FvvRfb0/UBFQnGy7QyI/AAAAAAAAAOw/X9oe51J1oYU/s1600/IMG_1743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yjL0FvvRfb0/UBFQnGy7QyI/AAAAAAAAAOw/X9oe51J1oYU/s320/IMG_1743.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The guns are of course a rather expensive option to take on points wise, but am quite confident that they'll recoup the cost with charred corpses and burnt out tanks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pioneers.... Who aren't actually in the list.. Frickin photobombing krauts...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JRKySYZZThY/UBFQr8j2OrI/AAAAAAAAAPI/v8ApUoJoVLo/s1600/IMG_1760.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JRKySYZZThY/UBFQr8j2OrI/AAAAAAAAAPI/v8ApUoJoVLo/s320/IMG_1760.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And the wondrous 88s. Yet another rather expensive option, but they're just plain iconic of the Wehrmacht so couldn't have left them out of the line-up/collection, no sir. Also, they're an excellent solution to those damned Matilda's, Char Bi-1's and Somua's which are likely to be running about.<br />
<br />
Managed to have a test game with these krauts against Mark and his Tommy Rifle Company already and while there were plenty of painful lessons learnt, had to say that I was rather pleased with how these boys pulled together for the win. Onward now to the Blitzkrieg!<br />

<br />
So anyway. About 3 months ago (or less?) I finally got myself into Flames of War.. and have been loving it since. There's nothing more satisfying that being able to relive those childhood exploits born from epic war movies, and FoW fits the bill perfectly in doing that. As it stands I've already gathered near on 3000 points worth of Early and Late War Germans put together and painted up and I dare say the excitement is still rearing up. Which brings me to my just finished, Junkers Ju-87 Stuka dive bomber.<br />

Originally had mixed feelings about this one as my original estimation of Dark Angel green being the right green was quite a far way off. Figured I could dull away the bright green shine by dry brushing the entire DA surface with Catachan green and then washing it with a coat of Badab Black. Appreciate that the pro-painters out there might blanch at the technique but living up to the principle of it's straightforward, simple and on the better side of good enough for gaming I was actually rather pleased with the result. Especially when it means that my Mittlere Panzerkompanie for the upcoming EW Case Orange campaign at Legio is going to have some much welcomed air support.<br />

Essentially what I felt the day after that election was hope. A kind of hope that has been very rare hereabouts for quite some time. Hope that just maybe we weren't doomed to become a failed 3rd world nation that saw the rich ripping what little flesh that was left off the rest of us so that they could go on living in their Istana Zakaria's, Toyo's, Diraja's what have you.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SltTeaTGMDI/AAAAAAAAAHo/gsEf5IbYHfA/s1600-h/Poster198+(For+the+Motherland!).jpg" style="text-decoration: none;"><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SltTeaTGMDI/AAAAAAAAAHo/gsEf5IbYHfA/s320/Poster198+(For+the+Motherland!).jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357967963607937074" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 198px; height: 320px; " /></a><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">(For the Motherland!)</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Anyway, it then came down to the question of 'Why bother staying? But at the same time I can't help but feel that there is a certain tragedy over uprooting for 'greener pastures' as they call it. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The thing is, I'm am rather torn on the subject. The optimist/ marxist in me believes that people can change, and when faced with an obvious thesis of injustice, malpractice, corruption etc the anti-thesis of change is inevitable... So says the historical dialectic, and so shall be. However the conundrum that is then faced on the personal level is, do you really want to be a part of the dialectic? Inevitable it may be but the option of not being around when it happens (and therefore avoiding whatever "struggle" as Marx would call it) is in today's world a very real and very attractive opportunity... So yea...I am not against the idea of uprooting.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SltTeNtFdpI/AAAAAAAAAHg/jpQxLrC4mPQ/s1600-h/Poster201(Soldiers+of+all+nationalities,+fight+for+Motherland+and+victory!).jpg"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SltTeNtFdpI/AAAAAAAAAHg/jpQxLrC4mPQ/s320/Poster201(Soldiers+of+all+nationalities,+fight+for+Motherland+and+victory!).jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357967960227280530" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 222px; height: 320px; " /></a><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"> (Soldiers of all nationalities, fight for your Motherland and for Victory!)</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">But then we got into a few more specific challenges that are involved, and top on my list was..well.. the racism.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Now... there are a large number of decent white people in the world. Seriously, there are. But racism is part and parcel of living in the white mans world. Chink, paki, nigger...whatever... you WILL eventually be the target of some misguided fool's vitriol... (Even homeless people aren't beyond racism as i was informed of today :S) and this friend of mine was looking at Australia as her new residence... White supremism central of the eastern hemisphere!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In fact, there was once a time back in uni that whilst merrily on my way to the local Greggs for some kickass english jam donuts, a bunch of bored white chavs driving around in a dinged up Pinto, loudly declared that I was of the 'Paki' descent and that I should return to whence I came from.... It was only while I was walking back to St Georges Hall, happily nibbling on my jam donut, did it actually click that they were referring to me however, and I was quite perplexed as I had no idea why anyone would want me to take a trip down to Brighton =P</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">But yeah, "take a step back and ask yourself why your being so hard on the white man Nahri?" might be the question on your mind right now. So allow me to explain.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">While I have no problem whatsoever with the white people, I do make the distinction that the fundamental basis of the overbearing success of the white establishment, has been its ability to hinder the growth and prosperity of any other establishment by using whatever means necessary from its repertoire of economic, military, religious, social AND psychological instruments. (See I'm not racist, I'm just a good little communist) This is a historical dialectic.. The color of your skin had nothing to do with it.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SltTd3WgjRI/AAAAAAAAAHY/uhyQE4j1oBg/s1600-h/Poster065+(To+the+West!).jpg"><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SltTd3WgjRI/AAAAAAAAAHY/uhyQE4j1oBg/s320/Poster065+(To+the+West!).jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357967954227006738" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 210px; height: 320px; " /></a><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;"> </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">(To the West!)</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">HOWEVER! While expressions of racism may not be as blatantly in your face, or occur whilst you are enjoying a jam donut, as it might over in merry old england, the expression of racism is very evident here. I went through childhood not getting most people!So what the hell's your problem?!! Even when it comes from close friends who I know don't actually mean anything by it, it just stings... Because for people like me, and frankly I do not know if there indeed are others like me, choosing the 'Bumi' path isnt even an option, because it is the thesis to which I owe the anti-thesis that is my very existence.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">And hurt it does. Believe me. In fact, its gotten to the point that not to long ago, someone who I cared for a very great deal actually told me that the only reason that it would not work out between us, was because it said 'Islam' on my identification card... Now, people who I confide in have told me that "It's her loss" and that "That mean's she isn't worth it, you should move on" but before you pass judgement consider, what trouble's her is not me the individual, but a thesis that has been in effect for over 50 years, one that has seen Malaysian's grow increasingly divided over the years and one that has inevitably led to a great sense of communal frustration and yes, anger, for being limited in terms of opportunities and possibilities in a country that does not exactly call you one of its own! so who am I to cast all that aside on a whim?... :(</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">THAT my friends, is the tragedy of racism... and of this country...and I say country for we are not a nation... and it literally makes a bunch of random racist white chav's look like a minor inconvenience you blog about for the amusement of others.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">So yeah, Australia? Having a cause to rock about isn't a necessary pre-requisite for brilliant music. Over the years and as the world calmed down a bit from the 50's,60's and 70's and entered the strange and rather gay world of the 80's and 90's, rock was valued as melodic entertainment for the sake of melodic entertainment, and rightly so. Television and MTV of course also had a heavy hand in it, popularizing rock to the point where rock (and all other popular music for that matter) became synonymous with fashion trends and glitzy glamor.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In today's world rock is often the playing field of the middle to upper class. Throw in a crowd that's been repressed and disillusioned by the strictures imposed by our oh so wonderful society, and is just bursting to break out in sheer...Fun?! Okay...lets begin with the beginning. Now with T1 and T2, the thematic exploration of fear and humanity facing insurmountable odds against cold, calculating machines of death was set from the word go. T2 in particular kicked off with that iconic Terminator foot crushing a human skull in the nuclear ash remains of a kindergarten, followed by a short but very intense battle scene that showed that though the humans are beginning to the gain the upper hand, the cost in lives is great, and the battle hard fought... (oh and that awesome scene of how the Terminators were built)</div><div><br /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/Sh_v3X_9gAI/AAAAAAAAAFA/BXhHhBSgY3Y/s1600-h/terminator-2-robot-1.jpg"><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/Sh_v3X_9gAI/AAAAAAAAAFA/BXhHhBSgY3Y/s320/terminator-2-robot-1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341251417698828290" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></a></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span> <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">Cyberdyne Systems Model 101...Arnie when he's not wearing any makeup</span><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:48px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-size:16px;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SiAcFb1fHdI/AAAAAAAAAFI/0l1iZJB2OSY/s1600-h/termieflames.jpg"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SiAcFb1fHdI/AAAAAAAAAFI/0l1iZJB2OSY/s320/termieflames.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341300037758426578" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 307px; " /></a></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:48px;"> <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"> <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Um..yeah...I know I'm a machine and all that </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">but being on fire is just not funny!!!</span></span><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px; white-space: pre;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In both T1 and T2 humanity, what was left of it, lived dark desolate lives where every moment was lived in fear of the next, where machines would infiltrate the few remaining human safe houses to eradicate them, where hunter killers were on a constant search and destroy pattern that made moving from one spot to another a matter of life and death, where Tech Com soldiers had to face Terminator Tanks, HKs, T101's and whatever have you with nothing but trusty plasma rifle, beat up technicals, the odd rocket launcher and friggin PIPE BOMBS!, where a good looking stud like Kyle Reese ain't ever gotten laid before meeting Sarah Connor!!!!<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I reckon you get the picture...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">So how's does Terminator Salvation begin?... with a crappy animatic going close up over the words 'Terminator Salvation" aaaaaaaaaaah!..... Booo!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Now...the first half of the film was actually rather bearable..Okay fine, you gotta introduce us to the Markus character...cool. And then we have a resistance strike against a Tincan Radar/Research lab... cool, we finally get to see how the resistance takes on Skynet!....okay missile strike followed by A-10's and a heli air assault... cool...(although hang on, A-10's?...helicopters?...Missile strike???!) Seemed to me that we were watching a hollywood production of what the Marines would be doing in contemporary Iraq, not the desperate hit and run efforts of an ill strength and poorly equipped resistance movement non?</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">But yeah okay, I'll buy it for now...its 2018, perhaps Skynet has yet to muster the resources needed to swarm over the nuclear ash remains of kindergartens.. okay fine... But what about Jon Connor? What has become of that little child/punk? (By and large I'm just gonna ignore T3 btw..) Has he faced countless endeavors and challenges? Has he been forged into the leader of humanity as we all know he is supposed to be? Has he suffered from having seen thousands of people die under his command?.... Well its almost like the scrip writer said to himself... "Meh, I reckon the audience will just assume so, so I'm just gonna write Jon Connor up as the dude who jumps of cliffs and helicopters without hesitation, sneaks into the enemies lair all on his lonesome and is a general pest to the bad guys...Did that just sound like a synopsis for batman?...hmm...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Wow...if I described everything that was wrong with that film I could go on forever so here are the things that annoyed me the most</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">- Missiles, A-10's, Helicopters</div><div style="text-align: justify;">- Missiles, A-10's and Helicopters being used or blown up like nobody gave a damn.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">- Resistance aircraft being parked out in the open on a clear sunny day.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">- Resistance people running around in the open on a clear sunny day.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">- Not being able to get to know any of the characters cept Marcus...and yea, his story kinda sucks/ is predictable (Yes it WAS an insidious plot by Skynet and yes the human heart IS mightier than the machine...boo!)</div><div style="text-align: justify;">- Resistance people milling about like they didn't actually have anything important to do. In the US major newspapers have closed shop completely while back on our shores, publications like the NST, Malay Mail and even the venerable The Star are seeing some rough times ahead as readerships plummet (and justifying those expensive ad placements gets tougher and tougher...).</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">As we move into an era where grabbing the attention of smartalec young punks(who are also tired of being told by the press as to what's happening and seek to find out for themselves via alternative sources) with access to the internet becomes increasingly challenging, getting onto the 'New media' bandwagon isn't just some fancy new trend that PR practitioners should try out every now and then... it is the bygone conclusion of what the future of communications will be. The fact of the matter is that as the years go by, PR practitioners will have to rely on using more mediums (i.e:-publications/blogs/social networks etc) that actually attract fewer readers than can be expected from the traditional papers of today. PR Campaigns and efforts will become increasingly more stakeholder/target audience specific with far more detailed, perhaps the word is elaborative, key messages.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Today,many PR practitioners have tried to engage the new media in much the same way as they would with the old...Let bloggers do a product review, invite them to our press conferences, make them feel like they are a part of the 'recognized media establishment'....and frankly its worked. That companies and PR practitioners have seen the wisdom in recognizing such individuals has led to the success of many online institutions...The Huffington Post, Paultan.org, LowYat.net etc etc... institutions that I dare say have had a significant impact on that which matters to businesses.. Brand identity and ultimately sales (or if you ain't a company that sells something, whatever objective it is that lays at the root of the business plan)<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">We are however at a crossroads. Some PR practitioners, having witnessed how effective the new media has become as a means of communicating to the consumer, have taken the liberty of going into the realm of "New media advertising". The daemon I speak of is the paying of a blogger to do a positive review of a company's product. *Pause for dramatic effect*</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Now in my estimation, that which separates the power of PR from advertising is that PR aims to elicit an actual emotional connection between a brand and the consumer whereas the purpose of advertising is to highlight the features, stylishness and overall uber seig heil'ness of a product or service. PR is about establishing the perception of dialogue between consumer and brand. Advertising is a monologue by the brand.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Credibility is thus a critical factor that separates a successful PR campaign from a poignant one. Dont get me wrong... Businesses embark upon PR activities to profile the brand which ceterus parebus will enhance the financial success of said business. But there is a difference between the company that embarks upon a CSR campaign to help develop the local film industry and the one that embarks upon a CSR campaign to get its logo in the papers. The former develops an emotional connection between its brand and those people who would be appreciative of that brand identity which results in the identity of that brand being communicated positively to others by the individuals involved (which thanks to the efforts of PR practitioners such as ourselves shall include members of the media =P). The latter spends money on purchasing schoolbags so that a photo of the GMD handing out goodies to school children can be pasted onto the papers for a day. Different attitudes driven by the same motive. One however has an edge over the other in that its motive is hidden due to the overarching perception that the brand does genuinely see the propagation of film/the arts/ cancer awareness/ the godlike machoness of nahri as being of significant importance to the <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">consumers who partake in that brand!</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Similarly, paying bloggers to write positive reviews equates to the same 'latter' attitude towards PR as described above with the added problem that you are doing so in an environment where interactive daemonization of such activities can and does occur! (Hello, comment box!)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">(Having said that, different approaches work with different segments of society, so don't take this as a total knock on the efforts of above-mentioned latter approach.)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Coming back to the topic of new media, I would like to use a project currently being led by a respected practitioner and friend of mine as a case study. Said individual...okay'la, nobody really bothers to read this stuff so I'll say Jonathan Tan of FH Communications *Woot!Woot!* was tasked by his client to develop a Facebook group that would proliferate the 'coolness' factor of the brand by engaging those individual's of generation G (yea I coined that one up myself Generation Geek i.e Lost,Heroes,Star Trek,Battlestar Galactica, Comic to Film films are all today considered COOL!) who are interactive, adventurous, conversant and sociable...(ie the sycophants such as ourselves who hook up onto facebook everyday la..)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Now here is a little project that has accomplished the following:</div><div style="text-align: justify;">- Attracted 4,135 fan's in a span of about 3-4 months if I'm not mistaken</div><div style="text-align: justify;">- Gotten participants of the page's events to blog about what they go through</div><div style="text-align: justify;">- Created a genuine emotional connection (not its not love you twats its excitement!) between the brand with its existing and potential customer base.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">- Created the perception of credibility by establishing that the brand is not only committed to its brand values and identity, but that it also knows how to have fun.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Which of the above is something that does not elicit the interest of generation G?</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Now the traditionalist will argue that 4,135 is a puny number compared to the 500k and beyond figures that traditional papers attract... But if you were to make a cost benefit analysis of the two...I wonder what percentage of the two figures(and methods used) would have developed a genuine liking/commitment by consumers towards the brand... In addition that participants then blog about their experiences exponentially adds to the number of people who become aware of the company's activities. Viral PR mein kameraden.(Note also that present trends in social networking indicate that the 4,135 figure is likely to continue to grow whereas readership trends of present day newspapers suggest that the 500k figure is likely to decline)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This is where some statistical research would do the industry a lot of good. If a correlation between PR activities and company sales figures were actually charted out, we'd have some empirical evidence....</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Ultimately however, I believe that we as PR practitioners need to approach new media cautiously. Yes, they are often eager to jump onto the band wagon and no its not that we dont want them to make some money out of their efforts.. but consider this. 50 or so years ago, the hoola hoop became one of the worlds best selling phenomenon's....and by and large its success hinged on one simple thing. It was one of the first toy's to be visually introduced to the consumers via Television. The hoola hoop wasn't the most fantastically brilliant toy ever developed (The Warhammer 40k Space Marines hold that honor =P)!! It was one of the first things that people saw on television which made them go "OMFG I WANT ONE BECAUSE THOSE PEOPLE ON THE TELLY ARE HAVING SO MUCH FUN GYRATING THEIR HIPS WITH IT!!AAARGH!" Emotion+Perception=Bingo! </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">But try advertising the hoola hoop today and see what happens...You'd be bitch slapped half to death for wasting peoples time fool! and why is that? Well because after 50 years of going through ad's that seek only to make money out of the consumer people just got ja..ja..ja..jaded!</div><div style="text-align: justify;">So whaddaya reckon is going to happen if we go on the path of paying every blogger that was the tasty little tidbit of the month to write something positive for a client? I reckon</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">A) it may take 2 years, it may take 20 years, it may take longer...but eventually people arent gonna trust the medium/blogger/brand anymore. So are you as a PR practitioner developing a sustainable business model?</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">B) it adds a cost to our business. One which justification for is not yet proven. How many bloggers do we have to pay to get our message out?How popular are these bloggers and for how long do you reckon?How long will we be able to pay them cheaply for?How long will it take for bloggers to behave like today's mainstream media?By god...there are thousands of them to boot.... Let us remember that a significant reason why blogging became so popular is that people, whether right or wrong, became totally sick with the 'mainstream' media</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> Now the counter argument to this would probably be....it's business...in business you don't worry about what the worlds gonna be like 20 years, 5 years, or 2 years down the road, you worry about how to most effectively get the job done now. Hmm, I got to say that there is a part of me that actually agrees with this line of logic. I guess the question that we all need to ask ourselves is are we here to build a sustainable business that gets us money by default of the quality of the services we provide...or are we just here to make money? :S</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">So... the new media...Are we going to take advantage of all that it has to offer us...Or are we going to forcibly turn it into the 'new mainstream media'?....</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Wow...now that was a long rant. Now for the line that spurred this entire line of thought ;P</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">"All of this has happened before...All of this will happen again...End of line." - Battlestar Galactica Razor</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SghaeVMf-UI/AAAAAAAAADo/6DkCsHPoIRk/s1600-h/battlestargalacticarazoyy5.jpg"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SghaeVMf-UI/AAAAAAAAADo/6DkCsHPoIRk/s320/battlestargalacticarazoyy5.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334613235752499522" style="float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 253px; height: 320px; " /></a>The gods fracking awesome Battlestar Galactica</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SghaefN3sUI/AAAAAAAAADg/7NwdYDuU2yw/s1600-h/battlestar-galactica-razor-20071008025203305-000.jpg"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SghaefN3sUI/AAAAAAAAADg/7NwdYDuU2yw/s320/battlestar-galactica-razor-20071008025203305-000.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334613238442602818" style="float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px; " /></a><br /></div><div>I Love You Major Kendra Shaw!!!!</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SghbAdIMU8I/AAAAAAAAAD4/6FFng6xBGz0/s1600-h/battlestar-galactica-20070118014017.jpg"><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SghbAdIMU8I/AAAAAAAAAD4/6FFng6xBGz0/s320/battlestar-galactica-20070118014017.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334613821997470658" style="float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px; " /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>I Love You Too Number 6!!!!</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/Sghbt2CedeI/AAAAAAAAAEA/QEunCTIHnVY/s1600-h/gracepark_2.jpg"><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/Sghbt2CedeI/AAAAAAAAAEA/QEunCTIHnVY/s320/gracepark_2.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334614601778492898" style="float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px; " /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EOg9rN16UN4/SghbAdIMU8I/AAAAAAAAAD4/6FFng6xBGz0/s1600-h/battlestar-galactica-20070118014017.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">.........W</span></a>hy do you make me have to choose?!!!! </div>Nahrihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14383482499656017378noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1425583895844360700.post-21758969743225314582009-05-04T09:26:00.000-07:002009-05-11T21:13:03.152-07:00This is how you tell someone to fuck off<div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: arial; font-size: 48px; ">"Dear Nahri,</span><br /></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I hope this finds you well.<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">We would like to thank you for your effort to attend the interview. Now reading through the initial forms they'd sent for me to fill up before the interview I got the sense that these people might be a bit too tree hugger'ish for their own good, and the way Earth Hour had been wankered off matched anything the GLC's of my previous experiences could pull off when it comes to lost opportunities.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;">Still, it was the WWF...which was one of several non-profits that I've actually been hoping to try my luck with for quite some time now. Getting into the interview I have to say that I wasn't really impressed by how it was being run, nor was I prepared to have to write a 1000 word essay in half an hour... (an essay?Come on?! Who writes essay's in the course of running a project?!Ask us to write a press release or even a fricking article you cunts!) Needless to say, my 'essay' turned into a rant on how I thought the WWF needed to rein in her objectives to something approaching 'within the realm of possibility' and to stop wasting their time and money on faggoty Yasmin Ahmad commercials starring the ever annoying Pete Teoh!</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;">Anyway after the essay writing a group of us were sat in front of a panel of WWF peeps (one was the GM,another a Comm's Manager, the third the HR lady) aaaaand...can I call it a chat? Should I?...Now I'm all for the informal feel of a chat rather than strict interrogation style interview...but come on your looking to hire somebody? Liven up! Anyway after a series of round-robin questions that sounded somewhat like "So do you know how to use so and so software?...and you?Yes?and you?Yes?And you?No..thats okay it doesnt really matter if you do or dont" I asked the GM a few questions about the direction of the job...what WWF objectives were, where did he see the Comm's strategy going moving forward etc etc...PR 101 stuff... Not entirely productive but I learnt a bit.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;">Second panel though, had me turned around completely. We met two of the Communications Officers (One was a technical expert on the protected area's the other the outgoing Comms officer) and these two girls really knew their stuff. Learnt a lot about what the day to day duties were expected to be and about the Protected Area's themselves, and simply put, I was sold. Here was the chance to run Comms work for something that actually really deserved to be put out to the world... with the chance to explore some of the remotest area's of Malaysia laid out on the table...and they were trying to say that you didnt have to if you didnt want to like that would have been the preferable option!!</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;">What riles me up the most however is that... I never got to have a one on one session with anyone from WWF...and if that first round session is what they are basing their recruitment choices on I dare say that they really haven't given much thought on who they're hiring, or what they should be expecting from the people that they choose to hire, or even on what an effective communications strategy would do for them for that matter! As a brand they have soo much potential to further enhance their cause! and to do good work for a GOOD cause for a change would have been the mind blowing satisfaction that I've been craving for!</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;">But that's life isn't it? The right things don't happen with the right people at the right time... and then we whine about why nobody gives a fuck about conservation and preservation anymore!</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;"><br /></span></div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family:arial;font-size:13px;"><br /></span></div>Nahrihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14383482499656017378noreply@blogger.com0
